About DC Police Union

The DC Police Union represents the 3,000 officers, detectives, and sergeants who make up the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department. Our officers are committed to protecting the residents of Washington — and we are committed to helping protect our officers.

By working together with residents, we have made great strides in reducing crime in our neighborhoods. And while DC is much safer than many of us remember decades ago, we still have a long way to go to make our city a safe place for all residents. As a union, representing our officers and fighting to improve their working conditions — we’re fighting for DC to become a safer city.

“Gibson was ambushed on an early February morning in his patrol car at Missouri and Georgia avenues NW, near the 4th District police station, where he was assigned.

Dean shot the uniformed officer after being thrown out of a nightclub by a different, off-duty police officer, and prosecutors said he sought retribution with a .45 caliber pistol by targeting the first random officer he spotted.”

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Third District Sergeant Jerry Reyes after a long, courageous battle against a serious illness.

Sgt. Reyes served the Metropolitan Police Department with honor for over 21 years. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to D.C. and for always lifting up his fellow officers.

Please keep his coworkers, family, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 💙🖤

We are re sharing this important message from the DC Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge in support of the Gibson family.

On February 5, 1997, Metropolitan Police Department Master Patrol Officer Brian T. Gibson was murdered while serving the people of Washington, DC. His loss devastated his family, his fellow officers, and our entire community. Nearly three decades later, that pain has not disappeared.

The individual responsible has filed a motion seeking release. As part of the Court’s review, impact statements from family members, coworkers, members of law enforcement, and community members will be considered.

If you were impacted by the murder of Officer Brian T. Gibson, or witnessed the profound effect it had on his parents, his wife, his children, and our Department, please consider submitting an impact statement. Your voice matters.

Impact statements are due by March 16, 2026.

Please email:

Subject line: MPO Brian T. Gibson, MPD, End of Watch 2 5 1997

This is about more than a motion before the Court. It is about honoring a fallen officer and ensuring that the lasting impact of Officer Brian T. Gibson’s murder is fully understood.

We stand with the Gibson family. We always will.

Please share.
